Welcome to the Annaert Lab
We study the molecular biology of membrane transport in health and disease
The Annaert laboratory is led by Wim Annaert and is part of the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Neuroscience in Leuven, Belgium. We study basic molecular mechanisms underlying the early stages of neurodegenerative diseases, focusing on endo-lysosomal transport regulation, homeostasis, and communication. We want to understand how this becomes affected by causal and risk genes linked to Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies. We integrate state-of-the-art gene editing tools, interactomics, and organellar omics with super-resolution and correlative light and electron microscopy, using cellular models (including iPSCs derived neurons and microglia) and mouse models.
Meet the team
Meet our team of postdocs, PhD students and support staff, all working together to study membrane trafficking in health and disease.
